“This historic marker, installed in 2019 at the northeast corner of Main Street and State Street, was paid for with a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. That organization, based in Syracuse, was founded in 2006 and has two missions. One is to provide assistance to patients with a form of leukemia. The other is to fund historic markers. By 2019, it had funded over 850 historic markers, mainly in New York State, but also elsewhere in the United States.
In August 2018, the Village received a letter from Deryn Pomeroy of the Foundation suggesting that we apply for a grant to fund an historic marker to recognize the listing of our historic commercial district on the National Register of Historic Places. Apparently, Christy Fuller, who runs the Foundation had noticed the listing of the district on the website of the U.S. Department of the Interior. After some correspondence back and forth, Ms. Fuller urged us to apply for the two historic markers. With the approval of the Historic Preservation Board and the Village Board, I submitted the suggested applications, which were approved. We received two grants of $1,094 each to pay for the signs. The marker was dedicated on May 16, 2019, as part of the Low Bridge High Water celebration.”
